She thinks he's a widower with a complicated past. He thinks she's a small-town schoolteacher with a gentle heart. They're both about to find out how wrong they are.
Pavel Volkov is former Bratva. However, he's been part of the organization as a covert operative, waiting to burn it to the ground from the inside, since he was seven years old.
Yet, when he finally gets his chance, he learns that the head of the Bratva's grandson is actually his son. And the organization Pavel has spent most of his life waiting to destroy wants Nikolai.
But Pavel will level the world before he lets that happen.
So, he and Niko go on the run. They find a small town named Spruit, located about an hour outside of Atlanta. It's somewhere no one would think to look, perfect for keeping his son safe while also planning his retribution.
Pavel goes to meet Niko's teachers at the Spruit elementary school, where he runs into Zaraia Brandon. Who reminds him of a sunflower. Something he, unfortunately, says out loud.
Then, surprisingly, Zaraia asks him out for coffee. And, on their coffee date, Pavel jokingly suggests that he and Zaraia skip the formalities. Niko needs a mother, Zaraia is beautiful, and life is short. What he wasn't expecting was for her to say yes.
